Musicians Bosse, Fritz Kalkbrenner and Paula Carolina will also be taking part in the opening show of Chemnitz as European Capital of Culture. They will perform on the stage at the Marx Monument. Above all, artists are involved "who take a strong social stance for art and democracy, for appreciation and respect", said program director Stefan Schmidtke. This is precisely the story that the Capital of Culture wants to tell: "How the people of Chemnitz are shaping their civil society through art and culture."
In addition to a ceremony for around 700 invited guests in the opera house at 7 p.m., a big show at the Marx Monument is planned for the opening on Saturday. Admission begins at 5.00 pm, it was said. Around 20,000 people would have room on site, but the whole thing would also be broadcast on screens in other places in the city center, as well as on live television on 3sat.
