Swiss conductor Brogli-Sacher takes over the direction of the New Lusatian Philharmonic Orchestra in Görlitz from Ewa Strusińska.

Swiss conductor Roman Brogli-Sacher is to become General Music Director of the Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie in Görlitz. This was announced by the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater on Monday. Brogli-Sacher succeeds Ewa Strusińska, who is leaving the orchestra at the end of this season. The Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie is the orchestra of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater.

Director Daniel Morgenroth emphasized the "very rich wealth of experience" that Brogli-Sacher brings with him. He has conducted operas and concerts at various locations around the world. From 2001 to 2013, he was General Music Director of the Lübeck Philharmonic Orchestra, during which time he was also Opera Director at the Lübeck Theater for several years. Brogli-Sacher was born in Basel in 1966 and is currently a freelance conductor.

Strusińska took over as conductor of the Neue Lausitzer Philharmonie at the start of the 2018/19 season. 4 women and 70 men had applied to succeed her. The five most promising candidates were each given the opportunity to conduct the orchestra at a Philharmonic concert and a performance of the new Görlitz production of Richard Wagner's "Flying Dutchman". A large majority of the orchestra members opted for Brogli-Sacher, Morgenroth said.
