Ahead of the Capital of Culture year 2025, Chemnitz will become a meeting place for international tourism providers. From 21 to 23 April, the city will host the German Travel Mart - the "largest sales event for German incoming tourism", as the German National Tourist Board, the organizer, announced on Thursday. Incoming tourism means that people come to Germany as tourists. According to the information provided, 235 buyers and decision-makers from the international travel industry as well as 110 media representatives from 38 countries are expected to attend. Information will be provided on new trends, developments and offers in German tourism.
The event is a great opportunity to promote Chemnitz as the European Capital of Culture, explained Culture and Tourism Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU). The Capital of Culture year is a perfect opportunity to position Saxony as the number one cultural travel destination in Germany, added Veronika Hiebl, Managing Director of the Saxon Tourism Marketing Association.
At the German Travel Mart, the German tourism industry presents its products and services to an international trade audience. At the same time, new contacts will be made and contracts negotiated for the coming year. Guests are also offered press trips and tours to get to know the region better. The meeting is a unique opportunity for the city to get on the agenda of international tour operators and travel journalists, emphasized Lord Mayor Sven Schulze (SPD).
Chemnitz will be the European Capital of Culture in 2025 together with Nova Gorica in Slovenia. The detailed program will be presented in October. The aim is to attract around 2 million visitors.
