The arrival of the European Peace Ride will be accompanied by a family sports festival in Chemnitz this year. The organizers announced on Monday that there will be music as well as sporting activities for young and old at the Chemnitz Ice Sports Centre on 15 September. The speed skating rink can be used free of charge for ice skating during the "Sattelfest".
The European Peace Ride is a cycling event as part of the European Capital of Culture 2025 and is being held for the fourth time. 200 recreational cyclists will cover a 570-kilometer route from this year's Capital of Culture Bad Ischl in Austria to Chemnitz in three days. According to the organizers, all starting places have already been allocated.
The European Peace Ride stands for sporting culture and follows on from the International Peace Ride, which connected the countries of the former Eastern Bloc for several decades from 1948. However, it is not an official cycling race, but a ride for ambitious recreational athletes.
