A whole flock of tits flew into a glass connection at Leipzig's Technical City Hall - and died. "We picked up 34 great tits and four blue tits on Sunday. They could no longer be saved after colliding with the glass pane," said Karsten Peterlein, bird expert at Nabu Leipzig on Tuesday.

For years, the dangers of huge glass fronts for birds had been pointed out. Effective protection with almost invisible film is feasible, Peterlein emphasized. "We have now carefully documented the case and reported it to the nature conservation authority." The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported.

The city is only a tenant of the building, but has already asked the owner to make improvements, a city spokesperson said on request. It is planned to apply a highly effective bird protection film in the near future, he said.
