Saxon Environment Minister Wolfram Günther has welcomed funds for the continuation of the so-called repair bonus. "I would like to thank the Budget and Finance Committee of the Saxon State Parliament for approving 1.4 million euros for the continuation of the repair bonus on Wednesday," said the Green politician in Dresden on Thursday. The repair bonus is a success, because in Saxony more is now being repaired and less is being thrown away. The offer has been well received by both repair businesses and citizens.
"The repair bonus is a success for the environment and climate and it pays off economically." According to Günther, the skilled trades and repair businesses in Saxony have recorded additional demand of more than two million euros since the introduction of the repair bonus. In addition, the repair bonus has avoided more than 45 tons of electronic waste in Saxony. Beyond Saxony, the aim must be to anchor the right to repair and to design devices in such a way that they can be repaired.
Since November 2023, the Free State of Saxony has been subsidizing repairs with repair costs between 75 euros and 400 euros. It grants 50 percent of the eligible costs. Up to two repairs can be funded per person per year. The repair must take place in a listed business. Interested businesses have the opportunity to be listed on an ongoing basis. A total of 1.25 million euros is available for the repair bonus this year.
