After a bird flu outbreak at a poultry farm in Grimma, the surveillance zone set up at the beginning of March has been lifted. This was announced by the Central Saxony District Office. Among other things, poultry exhibitions were prohibited in the zone, the poultry had to be kept in closed stables or protected aviaries and the health of the animals had to be closely monitored.
A suspected case in the Grimma district of Köllmichen was confirmed by tests at the end of February. Avian influenza was detected on a farm with around 100 birds. In order to prevent the spread of the disease, the animals were killed at the weekend. In addition, a surveillance zone was set up within a radius of ten kilometers around the outbreak site.
