The children's and youth film festival "Schlingel" attracts this year with eight world premieres, including the remake of the classic "Spuk unterm Riesenrad". The flick will be presented on September 24 in the presence of several actors and director Thomas Stuber, informed festival director Michael Harbauer on Wednesday at the presentation of this year's program. The story about the hunt for three escaped characters from a ghost train also exists as a series, but the film is also exciting to watch if you already know it, Harbauer said. To the festival, he expects about 25,000 guests, including several hundred trade visitors from Germany and abroad.
From about 1,200 productions, 171 films from 54 countries were selected for the 28th edition of the "Schlingel". Harbauer spoke of a "cinematic flight once around the globe". One focus is on the province of Quebec in Canada. The festival's premieres also include the Finnish-Latvian vampire film "Arnold Achtsam und der Stein des Glücks," the Indian production "F wie Frosch" and the film "Frag mal Bebel" from Brazil. The films are mostly shown in the original language with German or English subtitles; for the very young, they are dubbed live in the cinema hall.
The "Schlingel" opens on September 23 in the Chemnitz Opera House. Then it's "Film ab!" for a week at five venues in the city. There will be 57 feature films and 67 short films competing in various competitions. Several juries will decide who will receive one of the prizes.
