According to polls, there are signs of a neck-and-neck race between the CDU and AfD in the state elections in Saxony in September. According to a poll conducted by Infratest dimap on behalf of MDR, the AfD currently has 30 percent of possible votes, closely followed by the CDU with 29 percent. The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) could enter the Saxon state parliament in the fall as the third strongest force with a current approval rating of 15%. According to the survey, the SPD and Greens remain at seven percent, while the Left Party would no longer be represented in the state parliament with three percent.
According to MDR, the representative survey polled 1,1157 eligible voters. A poll conducted by the Insa opinion research institute on Wednesday also puts the AfD (32 percent) and CDU (30 percent) almost on a par.
A new state parliament will be elected in Saxony on September 1. Election polls are generally always fraught with uncertainty. Among other things, declining party loyalty and increasingly short-term election decisions make it difficult for opinion research institutes to weight the data collected. In principle, polls only reflect the opinion at the time of the survey and are not a forecast of the election outcome.
