Following the departure of four Left Party members from the Zwickau city council parliamentary group, the state party is in a clinch with the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW). The defectors in Zwickau had switched to this party and have now formed their own parliamentary group in the city council. On Monday, state director Lars Kleba called on those affected to return their seats.

"The councillors are on the city council thanks to the Left Party's program and resources. Even if the composition of our lists is a personal choice: as individual candidates, they would hardly have made it onto the city council," argued Kleba. The voters had cast their vote for left-wing politics. Anyone who suddenly advocates a different election program in the middle of the election period is deceiving the voters.

"We would have expected more integrity from those elected. The new BSW party is demanding fair treatment and is behaving like an axe in the forest," said a statement from the Left Party in Zwickau. "The left will continue to stand up for a society based on solidarity, which begins with our own actions."
