For Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU), the appointment of Katharina Reiche as Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy in the new federal cabinet is a "stroke of luck" for the eastern federal states. "She is familiar with the special challenges of the east and has repeatedly been an advocate for the special interests of the east in recent years, for example in her role as Chair of the German Hydrogen Council," he said on the announcement of the appointment in Berlin. Reiche, who is from Brandenburg and a former CDU member of parliament, has a great deal of professional experience and knows the processes in parliament and government. "But what particularly distinguishes her as Energy and Economic Affairs Minister is that she has worked successfully in business, and in the energy industry."
