MV and Saxony want to cooperate more closely in tourism development, with a focus on recruiting skilled workers and international tourism.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony want to work more closely together on tourism development in both federal states. MV Minister President Manuela Schwesig (SPD) and Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) signed a cooperation agreement to this effect on the beach in Warnemünde. The plan is to intensify the exchange on the topics of recruiting specialists and workers, tourism acceptance and international tourism.

According to the state tourism association, Saxony is particularly important for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. 13.4 percent of the total of around eleven million guests came to MV from Saxony in 2023. This corresponds to around 1.5 million guests. Saxony is followed by the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia (13.2 percent), Lower Saxony (10 percent), Berlin (9.4 percent) and Brandenburg (7.9 percent).

Afterwards, both politicians wanted to sign a letter of intent at the University of Rostock to support the planned High Energy Density Institute. The joint project between the University of Rostock and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) will focus on researching matter under extreme conditions, such as those found inside planets and stars.
