Objections to the results of an election are possible. Citizens in Saxony also make use of this option. After the state election on September 1, 2024, 13 objections were received.

The election review committee of the Saxon state parliament also recommends that the plenary session reject the three remaining objections to the state parliament election on September 1, 2024. These included an objection based on possible discrepancies in the publication of the interim results on the website of the state election officer on the evening of the election, the parliament announced.

"The result of the state parliamentary election is based on the records in the constituencies and the findings of the district electoral committees; there is no doubt that the election result was correctly determined," explained committee chairman Martin Modschiedler (CDU). The presentation of interim results on the website of the state returning officer would have no influence on the election result correctly determined in the official procedure.

13 objections to the Saxon state election

The election review committee received 13 objections to the state election. In ten cases, the plenary session of the state parliament had already decided to reject the committee's recommendations. Parliament now has to decide on the remaining ones at one of its next sessions.

In the state election on September 1, the CDU was the strongest party with 31.9%, ahead of the AfD (30.6%). They were followed by the Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) alliance (11.8), the SPD (7.3), the Greens (5.1) and the Left Party (4.5). The Left Party entered the state parliament as a parliamentary group thanks to winning direct mandates and now has six MPs. There is also one candidate who stood for the Free Voters. The CDU and AfD have the most MPs with 41 and 40 respectively.
