All three top Green candidates clearly missed out on direct mandates in their constituencies. Environment Minister Wolfram Günther won only 2.3 percent of the first votes for his party in the Central Saxony 3 constituency. He was therefore far behind CDU candidate Thomas Schmidt, who won with 40.2 percent, and AfD candidate Holger Zielinski (38.2 percent).
Justice Minister Katja Meier also had no chance in the Meißen 4 constituency. She achieved 4.1 percent. She was therefore well behind CDU candidate Sven Eppinger (35%) and AfD candidate René Hein (32.3%).
In the Görlitz 2 constituency, 3.4 percent voted for Green Party parliamentary group leader Franziska Schubert. There, Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU, 47.2 percent) prevailed against the direct candidate of the AfD, Sebastian Wippel (39.4 percent).
