The Saxon Greens want to remain in government and implement a policy with backbone. They stand for values and a stand against anti-democrats.

The Saxon Greens want to remain in government and ensure "politics with backbone". Their party stands for a policy guided by values as a counter-image to a policy driven by fear and sentiment, said party leader Christin Furtenbacher on Tuesday in Dresden. On Friday and Saturday, the Greens' top trio for the state elections on September 1 will be confirmed in Chemnitz and a further 27 list places will be allocated. Last year, the party council had already proposed Justice Minister Katja Meier, Energy and Environment Minister Wolfram Günther and parliamentary group leader Franziska Schubert as a trio. They also appear in this order on the list.

The Greens are opposed to political stubbornness and fake news, finger-pointing, populism and sham debates that damage democratic discourse, Furtenbacher emphasized. The Greens stand for politics with backbone and a consistent stand against anti-democrats and the right. "We are running to secure stable democratic majorities." The Greens are determined to run a fair election campaign and expect a fair understanding between the democratic parties.

State Executive Director Elke Siebert referred to her party's successes. She said that Saxony had been brought out of a standstill and stood for a modern state in which people stick together and look for solutions together: "We have set many levers in motion and we have found many solutions to challenges that have been ignored for far too long." They now want to continue these successes - for a liveable and climate-friendly future, for economic prosperity, a fair and open society and transparent state structures.

Co-chair Marie Müser also emphasized her party's goal of continuing to take responsibility for the fate of the Free State. She said that the top team was confident going into the state elections and wanted to build on successful government work. The team at the top is also an expression of the fact that the Greens have a fundamentally different understanding of politics. They do not see themselves as a one-man or one-woman show, but as a team in which everyone contributes their strengths.

A total of 120 delegates are expected at the list meeting. Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck will be represented with a video message. In the 2019 state elections, the Greens received 8.6 percent of the vote in Saxony. They are currently polling at seven percent. According to the party, it currently has 3,600 members in Saxony.
