Ski fans will soon have even more fun on the Fichtelberg in Oberwiesenthal. The regional authorities have approved the construction of a new chairlift.

The investments on the Fichtelberg are taking on ever greater dimensions. The State Directorate of Saxony has approved the construction of an approximately 950-metre-long 8-seater chairlift on the Kleiner Fichtelberg in the spa town of Oberwiesenthal. The two existing T-bar lifts are to be dismantled and replaced by the new chairlift.

The plans also include the construction of a new mountain and valley station, which is to be integrated into the existing ski area. The bottom station is to be built near the entrance to the existing T-bar lift, while the top station is to be built south below the small Fichtelberg summit. The increase in transport capacity should reduce waiting times in winter. The new chairlift will also enhance the tourist attractions of the spa town and its surrounding catchment area.

The spa town of Oberwiesenthal with the Fichtelberg is a popular excursion and vacation destination in the Ore Mountains and attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists every year.
