An election campaign event of the Saxon SPD with Defense Minister Boris Pistorius was disrupted in Leipzig on Monday evening. Around 50 people had gathered outside the venue, a police spokeswoman said on request. It was so loud in places that the SPD event could not be held inside.
There were also disturbances inside the venue, and three people were barred from the event by security. According to the police, the demonstrations against the SPD event had been registered by the group "Frieden schaffen ohne Waffen" and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW).
The SPD's lead candidate for the state elections, Petra Köpping, had invited people to the event. "We are not hiding," wrote Köpping on Platform X. "Unfortunately, there are people who want to prevent such discussions by all means. But we won't let that get us down." The vast majority of those present wanted an objective debate. Köpping went on to say that this was successful.
