Election posters are allowed to be put up again in Saxony - and the police are already reporting the first cases of destruction and hostility from supporters. According to the police, posters were torn down in several places in Leipzig on Saturday night. In the Meusdorf district, one perpetrator was approached by the posters. He then threatened and insulted the helpers with a sharp object and then fled. On Eisenbahnstraße, a 64-year-old man threatened two posters with a kitchen knife and also insulted them, according to the police. The man is being investigated.
In Chemnitz, a witness observed two 40-year-olds tearing down and damaging election posters during the night. In addition, a 14-year-old was arrested for allegedly setting fire to an election poster.
The election campaign for the state elections on September 1 is currently underway. Before the local and European elections in spring, a brutal attack on SPD politician Matthias Ecke in Dresden caused a stir. He was knocked down at night by several young men and injured so badly that he had to be treated in hospital.
