The AfD in Saxony does not want to participate in the consultation mechanism proposed by the governing coalition of CDU and SPD. Jan-Oliver Zwerg, Parliamentary Secretary of the AfD parliamentary group, said that the AfD was not serious about wanting to participate.
The head of the State Chancellery, Andreas Handschuh, had presented the draft for the consultation mechanism to the parliamentary leaders. This draft was discussed in the parliamentary group. "We have come to the conclusion that we do not want to join this procedure," said Zwerg. The decision was made unanimously, said Jörg Urban, parliamentary group and party leader of the AfD in Saxony.
They are available for cooperation, but not within the framework of this "democracy simulation", said Urban. However, talks between the AfD and CDU could continue.
As a minority government, the CDU and SPD are dependent on votes from other parliamentary groups to pass resolutions in the state parliament. To this end, they want to involve the parliamentary groups more closely through a consultation mechanism that aims to involve the other parties in projects at an early stage and allow them to submit their own proposals.
