The Saxon Left Party plans to select its candidates for the state parliamentary elections on September 1 in Bautzen on Saturday (from 10.00 am). Prior to this, the 200 delegates are to decide on the election program at a separate party conference. According to party leader Stefan Hartmann, the program is characterized by the "social DNA" of the Left. The party wants to represent the interests of working people and focus on four areas. In addition to the topics of the world of work, the economy and the climate, it is also about social services of general interest, education, democracy and social cohesion. Party chairwoman Susanne Schaper is in first place and Hartmann in second place on the proposed state list.

In the last state election in 2019, the party received 10.4 percent of the second votes. According to the latest polls, it is in danger of re-entering parliament. However, the party has also seen a positive trend in membership, with 6097 members according to its own figures.
