Saxony's Minister President Kretschmer had repeatedly slammed the Greens as a coalition partner during the election campaign. After the end of the Brombeer alliance, they are giving him the cold shoulder for the time being.

The Greens in the Saxon state parliament take a sober view of the failure of the exploratory talks for a so-called blackberry coalition between the CDU, the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance and the SPD in the state. "With his actions, the Prime Minister bears the main responsibility for the current political situation in the state. It is now up to him to find a solution to this mess. I don't see us playing a proactive role here," parliamentary group leader Franziska Schubert told the German Press Agency.

"You can always talk among democrats," said the Green politician. However, Kretschmer had emphasized at every opportunity that he no longer wanted to work with the Alliance Greens. "We will therefore wait and see. There is still time until February 1 and I would advise calm and reflection, which is good for Saxony. That must be the priority."

According to the constitution, a new prime minister must be elected in Saxony by the beginning of February 2025, otherwise new elections will be due.

Schubert admitted that her party had suffered many injuries as a result of the CDU's election campaign. "I cannot say at this point in time how the members will position themselves," she said with regard to possible support for a CDU-led minority government.
