The Left Party in Saxony is speeding up the selection of its direct candidates for the early Bundestag elections on February 23. The women and men who will stand directly in one of the 16 constituencies should be elected before Christmas, the party announced. The final constituency meeting is planned for December 16. The nomination for the state list is to take place at the beginning of January. As deadlines have to be met for the nomination, the party is under time pressure, it said.
First candidate announced
For the Dresden I constituency - the constituency of former Left Party chair Katja Kipping - lawyer Clara Bünger has announced her candidacy. She replaced Kipping in the Bundestag in 2022 and is responsible for migration policy and legal policy. "For me, law is not an abstract concept, but a means of helping people in a very concrete way," she explained.
As a member of parliament, Bünger is particularly keen to campaign for affordable housing and good funding for local authorities. "Rents in Dresden are skyrocketing and people need practical help for real problems. As a lawyer, I see it as my job to start right there and provide support. Politics must not be aloof, it must listen and work together with the people."
