The Johanniter aid organization in Saxony is training migrants to become rescue assistants. "We offer this special qualification for refugees in the care and rescue services," explained coordinator Antje Zajonz in Leipzig on Friday. The entry level is particularly low - participants basically only need language level B1 and a lot of motivation. Those interested can still register until next Monday, as there are still places available on a new course. It starts on the same day with migrants from Ukraine, Somalia, Syria and Venezuela.

According to Johanniter, the four-month course includes basic training in care, language lessons and training in professional and intercultural skills. Participants then complete a four-week internship, for example in a nursing home. Numerous migrants have already completed the qualification in recent years, it was reported. They are now working in permanent positions.
