Slippery roads and icy paths: Dresden prepares for winter

Slippery roads and icy paths: Dresden is preparing for the upcoming winter with 43 emergency vehicles. Around half of the state capital's 1400-kilometre road network is to be gritted, as announced by the Road and Civil Engineering Office on Monday.

In addition to roads and the public transport network, more and more cycle paths are also to be cleared. According to the office, 161,000 square meters of cycle paths are to be gritted this winter season. Last year, the figure was 123,000 square meters. The aim is to clear roads and cycle paths equally, according to the statement.

The plan also includes footpaths, stairs and crosswalks. However, the owners are responsible for footpaths adjacent to properties. They are obliged to remove snow and ice from paths and adjacent stairs.
