Twin boom at Chemnitz Hospital: six sets of twins born since the summer are currently being cared for there. And they have even more in common.

Twin boom in Chemnitz: Six sets of twins are currently receiving medical care at the hospital's perinatal center. The eight newborn girls and four boys are all identical twins, as the hospital announced. This is special, as statistically only around a quarter of all twins are identical. All the babies were born between the 27th and 33rd week of pregnancy. They are therefore considered premature babies. Two pairs are still in the neonatal intensive care unit. The other four have already been moved to a postnatal ward.

The boom started with the twins Jasmin Malisa and Emily Lalisa. The girls were born around 13 weeks prematurely in mid-July. At birth, they weighed just 420 grams and 735 grams. Today, they have more than tripled their weight.

By September 19, a further five sets of twins had seen the light of day. According to a spokeswoman, it is special that so many pairs of twins are being cared for on the wards at the same time.

At the turn of the year 2023/2024, there was already a boom in twins at the Clinic for Gynaecology and Obstetrics in Chemnitz. Five sets of twins were born between December 27 and January 1. A total of 49 sets of twins were born at the clinic last year.
