Dresdner SC's volleyball players fulfilled their compulsory task at VC Neuwied and won 3:0 (25:17, 25:17, 25:22) in commanding fashion. This was the six-time German champions' tenth win in a row in all competitions. The Elbe club will now face SSC Palmberg Schwerin in a clash within Germany in the European CEV Cup on Wednesday.
The visitors dictated proceedings from the outset in front of 190 spectators at the bottom of the table, still without points, with powerful tasks and attacks as well as solid blocking and court defense.
DSC coach Alexander Waibl gave several players from his second row a chance to play as the game progressed. After taking a clear 21:9 lead in the second period, they lost their rhythm somewhat as a result, but the Elbe club nevertheless secured a 2:0 lead in the set.
In the third period, the DSC players made a number of mistakes, while Neuwied played courageously. It remained evenly poised for a long time, but Dresden kept their composure in the final phase and after 69 minutes a block by Lena Linke on the third match point put the final point on the board.
