Berlin and Leipzig, the venues in eastern Germany, were given attractive matches in the group draw for the European Football Championship 2024 in Hamburg on Saturday. The first match in the group stage at Berlin's Olympic Stadium will be between Spain and Croatia on June 15. On June 21, Austria will play with German coach Ralf Rangnick against the winner of play-off path A. This could be Poland with star striker Robert Lewandowski. On June 25, Austria will face the Netherlands in the capital.
Three interesting matches will also take place in Leipzig. On June 18, Portugal, possibly with Cristiano Ronaldo, will play against the Czech Republic in the trade fair city. On June 21, Holland will face runners-up France and on June 24, Croatia will play Italy in the RB Leipzig Arena. The exact kick-off times have not yet been announced by UEFA.
Germany could be the guests in the round of 16 in Berlin on June 29 if the team coached by Julian Nagelsmann finishes second in the group. Further knockout matches in Berlin are the quarter-finals on July 6 and the final on July 14. After the group stage, a round of 16 match will take place in Leipzig on July 2. Germany will certainly not be playing in the arena there at the European Championships.
