National handball goalkeeper Silvio Heinevetter signs two-year contract with ThSV Eisenach from July

National handball goalkeeper Silvio Heinevetter will return to his home town of ThSV Eisenach next season. The handball Bundesliga club announced in a press release on Thursday evening that the 39-year-old had signed a two-year contract starting in July. His current club, TVB Stuttgart, had previously announced that Heinevetter would be leaving the club at the end of the season despite an offer. Eisenach's managing director René Witte said in the press release: "A prodigal son is returning to Thuringia".

Heinevetter, who originally comes from Bad Langensalza in Thuringia, attended ThSV Eisenach matches as a child. As a professional player, he recently broke the 600-game mark in the Bundesliga and has been part of the German national handball team since 2006. At the last European Championship, he was only part of the extended squad and did not get any playing time.

In addition to his previous stations at SC Magdeburg, Füchse Berlin, MT Melsungen and TVB Stuttgart, ThSV Eisenach is now the fifth Bundesliga club to join his résumé. "We see his move as a clear signal to establish our now well-established club in the 1st Handball Bundesliga and to make our way into our new arena with a spirit of optimism," said Witte. Eisenach is currently in a relegation spot.
