Leipzig would also like to be the host city for the next major soccer tournament in Germany. The DFB has registered its interest in hosting the 2029 Women's European Championship.

The city of Leipzig and RB Leipzig want to host the 2029 European Women's Football Championship. According to the Saxon Bundesliga club, it has submitted an application to the German Football Association to take part in the national bidding process. Leipzig is one of 17 interested parties who want to host the tournament. The DFB intends to bid for eight locations and a decision is expected in June 2025. The DFB must then prevail against the international competition at UEFA.

Leipzig was already the venue for the 2006 World Cup and this year's European Men's Championship. More than 300,000 visitors attended the matches at the Euros and in the fan zone.

"UEFA EURO 2024 was a great success for Leipzig and brought us further international attention. At the Women's EURO 2029, we want to show ourselves as a cosmopolitan host once again. We are convinced that this major soccer event will also attract many guests from all over Europe and hope to give a further boost to the perception of Leipzig as a sports city and to tourism in the city," said Leipzig's Sports Mayor Heiko Rosenthal.
