The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has suffered a setback in the battle for first place at the end of the regular season. The Europe Cup winners lost 93:96 (44:51) at MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg on Saturday and dropped to third place after their seventh defeat of the season. Desure Buie (18), Eddy Edigin (14), Silas Melson (14), Jayvon Graves (13), Jonathan Bähre (11) and Jaren Lewis (10) played the biggest part in Ludwigsburg's success. Aher Uguak (21), Kaza Kajami-Keane and Wesley van Beck (17 apiece) scored the most points for the Saxons.
The visitors dominated the scene on court in the opening spell and were 20:12 ahead after eight minutes. However, the Niners then lost their way. Ludwigsburg tied the scores at 26:26 after twelve minutes and then pulled away from 39:39 (18'), 54:44 (21') and 79:61 (29').
The visitors staged a furious comeback in the final quarter and fought their way back to within three points, but DeAndre Lansdowne's last three-point attempt did not land in Ludwigsburg's basket. Chemnitz lost the game primarily due to its poor shooting percentage from the free throw line. Only 26 of 35 shots were successful.
