According to the police, dozens of people were injured during the serious riots at the 3rd soccer league match between FC Hansa Rostock and Dynamo Dresden (1:0). According to the Rostock police headquarters, a total of 13 officers were injured as well as five stadium employees in an attack on the catering area of the visiting fans. According to the information, a further 33 people had to be treated by paramedics in the stadium on Saturday.
The situation escalated during the half-time break at the explosive East German clash, which has been classified as a high-risk match. After fireworks had been fired at players and Dresden fans from the Rostock fan block before the game and during the break, Dynamo supporters destroyed a partition and tried to get into the Hansa block.
1,300 police officers deployed
"In order to prevent violent attacks, state and federal police immediately deployed forces in the relevant area and brought the situation under control," the police announced. The match was interrupted for just under half an hour during the operation. A total of around 1,300 officers from the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state police and the federal police were deployed.
In addition to the riots in the stadium, police said that other crimes had already been committed in the run-up to the match. These included damage to property, coercion in road traffic, violation of the Explosives Act and violation of the Weapons Act. Three suspects have been identified. Criminal proceedings have also been initiated for the theft of fan paraphernalia.
