A double strike in the opening stages has opened the door to the 2nd Bundesliga even further for Dynamo Dresden. Goals from Dominik Kother (6th) and Niklas Hauptmann (8th) laid the foundation for the Saxons' 2:1 (2:1) win against SV Sandhausen. Patrick Greil (38) reduced the deficit after a counter-attack in front of 30,446 spectators. Dynamo are seven points clear of the relegation places with three games remaining. Their next opponents are second in the table and DFB Cup finalists Arminia Bielefeld.
After Claudio Kammerknecht prevented Dynamo from going behind with a strong save after four minutes, it was all Dresden. Kother with a precise low shot into the far corner and Hauptmann with a header from Vinko Sapina's cross brought calm to Dynamo's play and put the relegation candidates in a state of shock. Without playing at an extremely high tempo, but with good counter-pressing, coach Thomas Stamm's team denied the visitors any chance of becoming dangerous in attack. The final goal was therefore completely unexpected. Greil was able to run into the Dynamo goal from his own half completely unchallenged and finish.
Gate goal throws Dynamo off their stride
The goal turned the game around. Dynamo lost their confidence of the first 30 minutes. They retreated more and more, and for a long time there was not much going forward. They shied away from taking risks, did not want to run into another counter-attack and had to tremble during the few Sandhausen attacks. It was not until the 82nd minute that Kammerknecht had the first clear chance of the second half, but did not hit the ball properly. Substitute Robin Meißner missed the best chance to decide the game in stoppage time with a counter-attack.
