Erzgebirge Aue must continue to worry about staying in the league. A very weak first half is the reason.

SC Verl remain FC Erzgebirge Aue's opponents to fear. Four rounds before the end of the 3rd Football League season, Aue lost 1:5 (0:4) in Verl and still have to worry about staying in the league. The Violets had already lost 2:5 in the first leg. They still have a comfortable cushion over the relegation places, but coach Jens Härtel's charges cannot afford any more collective lapses like the one in Verl.

Verl overran the Erzgebirge side in the first period. Lars Lokotsch (15th minute), Berkan Taz (30th/40th) and Dominik Steczyk (38th) had ensured an early decision. After Marvin Stefaniak (70') scored a consolation goal, Anthony Barylla (71') restored the gap with an own goal. Jean Seitz failed to beat SC goalkeeper Philipp Schulze with a penalty in the 87th minute.

Aue fail to get a grip on the left side

Aue had played well for 15 minutes before the deficit completely disrupted the match plan. The shorthanded Erzgebirge side never got a grip on the hosts' left wing in particular and had goalkeeper Martin Männel to thank for the fact that the defeat was not even worse. Härtel tried everything in the second half, switching to a three-man back line and bringing in fresh forces, but it all came to nothing.
