After Leipzig's handball team confirmed the departure of Kristian Saeveras, it is now clear who will be his successor in goal.

Handball Bundesliga club SC DHfK Leipzig has strengthened its goalkeeper position for the coming season. As the club announced, Tomas Mrkva is moving from record champions THW Kiel to Saxony. The 35-year-old Czech international goalkeeper has signed a contract until 2027 and will team up with Domenico Ebner in the new season following the departure of Kristian Saeveras.

"Leipzig is a very well-positioned team and the overall package simply convinced me. I want to help the team and contribute my experience in order to achieve the best possible results together," Mrkva was quoted as saying in the statement.

Mrkva moved to the Bundesliga in 2010 and has since played for Frisch Auf! Göppingen and HBW Balingen-Weilstetten before moving to Kiel in 2022. He won the championship with THW in 2023.

While Mrkva moves to Leipzig for his sixth stint in Germany, THW will be relying on German international goalkeeper Andreas Wolff and Spanish international goalkeeper Gonzalo Perez de Vargas, who joins from FC Barcelona, in the coming season.
