The eternal cup duel between RB Leipzig and VfL Wolfsburg enters a new round. The next clash will take place in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup in February. This was the result of the draw made by handball star Julian Köster at the German Football Museum. The exact date for the seventh clash has not yet been set.
"First of all, we're delighted to have been drawn for another home game. The fact that it will be VfL Wolfsburg is of course a special story and has already become a tradition in the DFB Cup. We have to do a lot of things much better against the Wolves than we did last time, whether in the DFB Cup or in the Bundesliga. Then, with our fans behind us, the goal can only be to reach the semi-finals," said RB's managing director of sport, Marcel Schäfer.
RB advantages in cup duels
Leipzig have won four times so far, but last season they were eliminated as defending champions in the second round with a 1-0 defeat in Wolfsburg. RB's biggest win to date was 6:1 in the second round of the 2019/2020 season.
In the quarter-finals, RB have the chance to take revenge for their biggest home defeat in the Bundesliga to date. On November 30, the Wolves won 5:1 under former RB coach Ralph Hasenhüttl in the Saxon trade fair city.
