The volleyball players from Dresdner SC have won the DVV Cup for the seventh time. The team of former national coach Alexander Waibl won 3:0 (26:24, 25:12, 25:20) against USC Münster in Mannheim. It is the Dresden side's first title since 2020, while the record cup winners from Münster remain on eleven trophies. The last one came in 2005.
In the clash between the two youngest Bundesliga teams, Münster quickly took an 11:5 lead in the first set. USC managed numerous precise shots and tapped balls for points in front of the large crowd. The set seemed to be won at 23:18, but the Saxons came back strongly led by Lorena Lorber Fijok.
Dresden dominate set two
It was an effective strike that unsettled Münster. The favorites from Dresden, on the other hand, showed their class right from the start in the second set and did not give their opponents the slightest chance. "You could tell in the first set that we were still nervous," said Dresden's Sarah Straube at Dyn, "but we then managed it really well."
In the third set, the match was initially evenly poised again. However, the DSC stepped up again at the right moment and did not allow itself to be unsettled by a small deficit and its own mistakes. The Münster team was not able to fend off a strong serve from Lorena Lorber Fijok. The first match point brought Dresden victory.
