The election of the Migrant Advisory Council begins on April 7, 2025 and ends on April 14, 2025. The candidates have now been determined: a total of 53 people were approved at the public meetings of the election committee on March 24 and 27.
For the second time, 16 members from the migrant population will be elected in an online election, thus strengthening the political participation of this group of Leipzig residents. "We are very pleased about the large number of applications submitted and are impressed by the diversity and commitment of the candidates," says Manuela Andrich, Commissioner for Integration of the City of Leipzig and Head of the Department for Migration and Integration, which acts as the office of the Migrant Advisory Council. "What is really important now is a high turnout in the election from among the more than 90,000 eligible voters so that they can legitimize their representatives."

The election procedure adopted by the council assembly stipulates that the persons determined via the online election are then proposed to the city council for appointment.
As one of the most active specialist advisory boards, the Migrant Advisory Board has been supporting the city administration and the city council on migration and integration policy issues since 2009, thereby contributing an important perspective of the growing urban society. With its motions to the city council, it has brought about several improvements for the lives of migrants in the city in recent years.
