A shocking incident took place in the south-east of Leipzig: a 36-year-old man allegedly stabbed his partner's dog to death in a violent attack. The accused, Alexander M., got completely out of control in the apartment on Ferdinand-Jost-Straße and pointed the kitchen knife with a 30-centimeter-long blade 15 times at the innocent animal. The Leipzig public prosecutor's office has charged him with several offenses against the Animal Welfare Act as well as assault.
The now deceased dog belonged to the Exotic Bully breed, known for its even-tempered nature. Despite the animal's peaceful nature, Alexander M. attacked it in a hostile mood, according to public prosecutor Sandra Daute. The shockwaves from the attack were so intense that the dog's owner had to be cared for by a crisis intervention team.
In court, it was also revealed that the defendant already had a criminal record and was on probation. He had undergone anti-aggression training while in prison, which makes the current outburst of violence all the more remarkable. The main hearing was postponed due to scheduling difficulties and will have to be rescheduled.
