Information shows bus and train capacity utilization in real time

Passengers on Dresden's public transport system (DVB) can now see how full their streetcars or buses will be before they set off. A corresponding automatic passenger counting system has been installed in the vehicles, as the DVB announced on Friday. The display in the timetable information on the Internet and as an app is part of the overall project to improve public transport, which has been running at DVB since 2020. Of the total project costs of just over ten million euros, the share for the counting systems amounts to almost three million euros and is also 75 percent funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

In addition to the departure times and information on how punctual the bus or train currently is, a symbol with three little men shows the capacity utilization of the respective vehicle. One male means that the vehicle is up to 30 percent full. Two males indicate an occupancy rate of 30 to 70 percent and three males indicate that the vehicle is very well occupied.
