The bomb disposal near Bad Dürrenberg went according to plan. According to a spokeswoman for the Saale district, there were only minor problems during the defusing operation. Removing the bomb's detonator was a challenge for the explosive ordnance disposal service. "Nevertheless, it went relatively quickly," said the spokesperson. Traffic was hardly affected by the closures. Despite the partial closure of the A9, the police are not aware of any major traffic jams.
By 7.45 a.m., people had to leave an industrial estate located in the restricted area. At around 8.30 a.m., the highway between the Leipzig-West junction and the Rippachtal junction was closed off, as the Weißenfels highway maintenance department announced on request. After checking the restricted areas, defusing work began at 9.15 a.m. and lasted 45 minutes. The restricted area and the highway were then reopened.
The 250-kilogram bomb was discovered during excavation work near the Bad Dürrenberg district of Tollwitz (Saalekreis), according to the Saalekreis.
