Konsum Dresden would like to join the Edeka group. With the approval of the Federal Cartel Office, the way is now clear.

The Konsumgenossenschaft Konsum Dresden eG may join the Edeka group. The Federal Cartel Office has approved the entry after intensive investigations in the preliminary examination procedure, Konsum Dresden announced. Accordingly, the merger is not expected to significantly impede effective competition.

Consum Dresden intends to strengthen its future viability and competitiveness by joining the merger. Delivery routes are also to be shortened. "We will retain our identity as a locally popular local supplier with a wide range of products from regional producers in any case and at the same time benefit from the advantages of the Edeka group," said Management Board member Roger Ulke.

The cooperative will continue to operate under its familiar name, but will in future bear the suffix "Partner of Edeka". From mid-2026, Edeka will become the main supplier of food and other goods.

In May, the Federal Cartel Office had already approved the entry of Konsumgenossenschaft Leipzig into the Edeka group. According to the cartel office, the Edeka Group is the leading provider in the German food retail sector and has a nationwide sales network with around 11,000 locations. In 2023, the group achieved a turnover of more than 70 billion euros.
