Respiratory infections are still on the rise in Saxony. According to the latest report from the State Investigation Institute (LUA), the coronavirus in particular is still rampant. Although the number of reported Sars-CoV-2 infections has decreased by 14 percent compared to the previous week, it is still at a high level. Since the official start of the season at the beginning of October, 81 people between the ages of 46 and 97 have died as a result of coronavirus disease.
According to the LUA, Sars-CoV-2 continues to clearly dominate among the pathogens currently detected, with cases mostly being registered in older adults and senior citizens. While the number of reported influenza cases fell by a fifth compared to the previous week, there was a 19 percent increase in infections with respiratory syncytial viruses (RSV). The number of registered coronavirus infections in the current flu season has increased by 1,096 to almost 8,600 - while only 233 cases of influenza and 140 RSV infections have been reported so far.
