The DOK Leipzig film festival has reached a record audience this year. A total of 55,000 visitors attended - almost 10,000 more than last year, according to the festival. The previous record was 48,000 (2019).
The 67th edition of the festival was received with exceptional enthusiasm by audiences and the film industry. "DOK Leipzig 2024 attracted well over two thousand accredited professionals, who contributed to the increasing attendance in the festival cinemas and noticeably boosted the popularity of the industry events," said festival director Christoph Terhechte according to the press release. The number of season ticket and one-way ticket purchases also increased.
The Leipzig festival entered its 67th edition this year. More than 200 films and extended reality works were on the program. The Leipzig International Festival for Documentary and Animated Film was founded in 1955. According to the organizers, this makes it the oldest documentary film festival in the world.
