The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra will give a concert on February 24 to give a foretaste of the Dresden Music Festival.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra will give a foretaste of the Dresden Music Festival on February 24. The top Asian orchestra wants to build a musical bridge between East and West and has a European premiere in store, as the festival announced on Wednesday. With "Asterismal Dance", the composer Daniel Lo wants to transport us to the sound world of his native Hong Kong, it was said. The work also provides a counterpoint to the other two pieces of the evening, Dmitri Shostakovich's 9th Symphony and Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4. The soloist is the French pianist Alexandre Kantorow. The orchestra will be conducted by its chief conductor Jaap van Zweden.

Dresden is the first stop on the orchestra's European tour. Other venues include Zurich, Toulouse, Rotterdam and Rome. The 47th Dresden Music Festival will take place from May 9 to June 9 under the motto "Horizons". Guests include the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, jazz singer Stacey Kent and rock musician Sting.
