The "Schlingel" film festival has awarded its main prizes - and this year all the winners are from Europe.

The main prizes of the 29th edition of the children's and youth film festival "Schlingel" have been awarded to productions from Poland, Germany, the Netherlands and a Latvian-Dutch co-production. According to the organizers, a total of 19 prizes were awarded at the awards ceremony in the evening at the Carlowitz Congress Center in Chemnitz. The winners of the four short film competitions had already been honored last Saturday.

International diversity on the winners list

This year, the European Children's Film Award went to "Lampo - A Four-Legged Traveler" by Magdalena Nieć from Poland. The main prize from the Saxon State Media Authority went to the Latvian-Dutch co-production "The Book of Everything" by Ineke Houtman. The prize of the City of Chemnitz went to the German film "Gotteskinder", which deals with the lives of teenagers who struggle with the beliefs and lifestyles of their community.

During the festival week and the preceding Schlingel event in Zwickau, a total of 181 films from 52 countries were presented. This year, the country focus was on New Zealand, from which ten productions were shown. In the coming weeks, over 250 more films will be screened as part of various special programs.

Big crowds and prominent guests

The festival attracts thousands of visitors every year. This year, around 20,000 guests were counted in the cinemas. The program was put together by a commission from a selection of around 1,000 films. As usual, numerous national and international filmmakers and professional guests were present. Actors, directors and producers took the opportunity to talk directly to the young audience in the cinema hall.
