The business community wants clarity about the future governing coalitions in Saxony and Thuringia as quickly as possible. This is also important for a good location policy, they say.

The German Engineering Federation (VDMA) is pushing for speed in the formation of a government in Saxony and Thuringia. "Long stalemates will cause even more damage to the already battered industry, especially mechanical and plant engineering companies," explained Alexander Jakschik, Chairman of the VDMA Regional Association East. Majorities must be found quickly that are "constructively committed to good location policy projects and viable compromises".

The VDMA is observing the difficult negotiations following the state elections in Saxony and Thuringia with concern, it said. The focus should be on issues that can actually be advanced in the federal states. "Typical urgent state issues are education, skilled workers and infrastructure. Foreign policy issues, on the other hand, are clearly a matter for federal politics and must not play a role in the coalition talks in Saxony and Thuringia."

The VDMA says it represents 3,600 German and European companies in the mechanical and plant engineering sector.
