After the Bautzen district council, the district of North Saxony has also sent a resolution to the new state government in light of the dramatic financial situation. "We need a permanent, structural solution to the serious financial problems. There is not enough money to fulfill our tasks," said North Saxony's district administrator Kai Emanuel (non-party). No further tasks should be transferred from the federal and state governments.
At present, Saxony's rural districts have a budget deficit of at least 500 million euros. North Saxony is currently not in a position to draw up an approvable budget, the report continued. In order to be able to fulfill mandatory tasks at all in the future, the district council had decided to take out loans up to a total volume of 165 million euros.
