The Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) also benefited from the Deutschlandticket last year. With 167 million passengers, 2024 was the most successful year since the 1990s, the company announced. The increase of nine percent compared to the previous year shows that the service improvements and the Deutschlandticket have met with a great response from the population.
"The increasing environmental awareness among citizens and our attractive offer give us a tailwind to continue achieving municipal goals," said management spokesman Ulf Middelberg. The service improvements include the extension of the 10-minute interval and new bus routes. At the same time, the Deutschlandticket has led to new customers and more journeys by regular customers.
The European Football Championship also contributed to the increase in demand, according to the information provided. However, the most successful quarter was the fourth quarter, in which the highest figure since the 1990s was achieved with 43.6 million passengers transported. This represents an increase of around four percent compared to the previous year.
Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB) also recently reported around 180 million passengers, which is a record. Never before since reunification have so many people used Dresden's public transport system.
