Driving a car is convenient but unhealthy, as environmental activists criticize. Those who can should definitely switch to cycling and public transport - or walk.

Activists from the environmental initiative Extinction Rebellion continue to draw attention to air pollution in cities with road blockades. "Private transport and its exhaust fumes pollute our air and threaten the health of our families," the group announced after a blockade at Dresden's Albertplatz. Air pollution is responsible for many premature deaths among children, explained rally leader Iris Kämper. The organizers of the protest also pointed out the positive effects of cycling on health, for example. Exercise can significantly reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

About a dozen climate activists took part in the action on a busy square in Dresden. Drivers reacted by honking their horns, while passers-by and a few car drivers reacted with understanding, eyewitnesses reported. According to the police, the protest went off without a hitch.
