Saxony's Ministry of Transport is providing millions in funding for local public transport. The subsidies are intended to help achieve the climate protection targets in the state and make public transport more attractive.

The Saxon Ministry of Transport is providing several transport companies in the Free State with millions in funding. According to the ministry, Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe (DVB) will receive a total of 30 million euros for the purchase of new buses and streetcars. Of this, 14.4 million euros are earmarked for the procurement of seven new light rail vehicles.

In addition, DVB has been promised further funding of around 5.8 million euros. In addition, around 15.3 million euros are to be invested in the procurement of 45 emission-free standard articulated buses in order to expand the state capital's vehicle fleet and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. These infrastructure measures are being supported by the Free State with federal and state funding.

Further support for Saxony's transport companies

Other transport companies in Saxony are also benefiting from the funding for climate-friendly buses. RegioBus Mittelsachsen GmbH in Mittweida, for example, is to receive around 3.8 million euros for the purchase of twelve standard scheduled buses and five midi buses with battery-electric drive systems.

Regionalverkehr Westsachsen GmbH in Zwickau is to receive around 4.1 million euros for the purchase of five minibuses, three standard scheduled buses and 51 electric scheduled buses.

Regionalverkehr Erzgebirge GmbH in Annaberg-Buchholz will receive around 1.6 million euros for the procurement of five electric minibuses, six standard regular-service buses, two standard articulated buses and six standard large buses.

Emission-free future for local transport

"With this funding, we are not only supporting transport companies in fulfilling the federal legal requirements for the procurement of clean road vehicles, but are also continuing to make an important contribution to achieving environmental and climate protection goals," said Saxony's Transport Minister Martin Dulig. The Free State stands by its responsibility to voluntarily support companies in this important investment.
